I love Omega, but, the DeVille line kind of confuses me. The design is kind of off and the skinny numerals have a certain tacked-on look that I just can’t stomach. However, this GMT gained 2 seconds in a month and is just about as high quality an Omega as possible.
As a watch enthusiast, I have a certain degree of obsessional neurosis and a compulsive preoccupation with some aspects of watch design. One aspect is legibility and I must confess that I am very pleased with the DeVille. The contrast between the white dial and the rose gold hands & markers is beautiful and makes this a very legible watch.

Nad takes some excellent photos of the Hublot Big Bang. So ugly! So expensive! So amazing!
Big Bang study in close up [BigWatchForum]
From TheSportingLife.net – Any old watch can tell you what time it is in multiple time zones, but a real watch can help you track bogies in all directions. If you find yourself too close for missiles, switch to guns!
Rats, it’s not a real radar watch, just a simulated version, with a teeny plane that appears on the ‘screen’ every 60 seconds. Shame, a real one would be really rather cool, but this will just have to do while we’re waiting. Japanese quartz movement. $49.99.

Given our penchant for EBay brands, here’s a nice review of a “$4,000″ fly-back date sold for… $76.
If you are skitish or offended by the crazy retail sales price, go get another watch. But if you can pick one up for less than $100 I think you may be surprised. I’m sure there are lemons, and there are plenty of horror stories, but hey, if you are buying a watch that purports to be of greater value than your paying you may want to think about why that’s possible. In Duboules case, they are Chinese made, imported and auction sold, and cheaper than many reportedly better made watches out there.
Duboule 1620 Broughshane automatic flyback date review [Mimezamac]

We got an email earlier this month about Tauchmeister Watches. I decided to do a little digging and found they’re essentially the same as Aeromatic, which we reviewed a while back. Anyway, I picked up the FLY-BACK GMT COMBAT-DIVER 1000m HELIUM-SAFE T76 (all caps, naturally), which has a Miyota CP01 movement with retrograde GMT hand. It looks like a beast and we’ll see what comes of it when it arrives next week.
I’m going to withhold judgement until it comes, so let’s see what we find out, shall we?

We love our D.Freemont and these new divers are no exception.
10 ATM, Sapphire crystal, 2892 ETA movement with adjustable secondary time zone, and a power reserve indicator…a great 40mm Diver with a pedigree. $750 post paid. Your choice with black water resistant strap, and black dial markers – or Cognac strap and dial with gold markers. Both have deployant buckles.
D.Freemont is very affordable and very attractive. He uses only timed Swiss movement. I encourage you to find a GMT diver in this range for the same price. Can’t be done. MMMMMM…

Buddy Holly’s Omega is up for sale in April and it’s a beaut.
The diamond and white gold Omega wristwatch is inscribed on the back, “Buddy Holly 12-1-58,” the date his bride of four months gave it to him as an early Christmas present. It was recovered at the site of the plane crash by investigators and later worn by Holly’s father in their hometown of Lubbock, Texas.

Tissot has scored a coup for the mechanicals market by partnering with NASCAR. While we can shudder to think of the many ways the name Tissot could be mispronounced by NASCAR announcers, it’s great to see a less expensive brand of Swiss watch get notoriety like this. The first official piece is the PRS516 with Valjoux Day-Date movement and a sexy NASCAR styling which sells for about $1,200. Future models will hit the $250 mark, making it a good entry-point for new collectors.
Tissot, the Swiss watchmaker and timing technology company, has inked a deal with the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) to become an official partner. Tissot will become the “official timekeeper” and “official watch” of NASCAR, America’s fastest growing sport. Debuting with the 2006 season, kicking off in February, Tissot will introduce a new line of official NASCAR watches.

IF YOU CLICK THE LINK, YOU WAIVE THE RIGHT TO EMAIL ME AND COMPLAIN ABOUT DIRTY STUFF ON WWR. If you don’t want to click on the link, rest assured one of the models is wearing a very large watch, shown here, possibly a Panerai.

Not quite a watch post, but Velociphile seems to be writing erotic watch fiction now.
On her stool with a just-long-enough-skirt on, sat before the bracelet tool stand, on one occasion she fumbled one of the pins into the gap between her thighs. And you know how fiddly small things like a small cylinder just go further in the more you move your legs apart…….

It’s not every day that you see a watch company advertise on television. Every once in a while, you might catch Seiko and Citizen, maybe a few brands like that. But you rarely see the super high-end brands or the smaller boutique makers on TV. So almost choked on my sausage-and-egg McMuffin this morning when I was flipping the channels and saw an advertisement for Hublot timepieces.
With a soothing, yet sophisticated voice providing the narration, and lush landscapes in the background, the ad seemed more like a infomercial for an expensive timeshare than a fine wristwatch. They focused primarily on the pieces in the Classic and Elegant lines. I didn’t see any of their Sport line and I certainly didn’t see John’s favorite, the Big Bang.
Most interesting of all was the timing and placement of the advertisement. The bit aired at about 10:35am on a Sunday morning on ESPN2. The show was Billfishing Xtreme Release League. I guess they figure if you’re a big game fisherman, you’re gonna need a serious timepiece as you struggle to land that catch. Maybe, just maybe, if Santiago in Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea was wearing a Hublot while he battled that noble marlin, he wouldn’t have lost track of the time and needed three days to bring it in.
Great post on Invicta vs. Rolex vs. Sandoz, which is kind of like comparing a Camry to a Bugatti to a Crown Vic.
As you can tell, I really do not pick any one of these three as superior or a better buy than any other because they serve different purposes-albeit, the Sandoz and the Invicta are similarly priced-but the Sandoz offers the Swiss movement and slightly different look, while the Invicta offers the Submariner style, with an automatic movement, at a bargain price. The Rolex is the epitome of this style diver. Take your pick-or pick all three.

I’m thinking long and hard about picking up an ORSA Sea Angler. This thing looks really nice, very well put together, and I’m very pleased they’ve gone from an EBay-only brand to a producer of quality automatics.
