I was under the impression that an "automatic" watch was a mechanical watch with a rotor that winds the mainspring as it rotates around due to gravity. I have a couple of Seiko Kinetic pieces that have a rotor, but the rotor charges a battery. It doesn't make it an automatic, it makes it a rechargeable quartz watch. I like the dynamics of wearing an auto-anything, watch. Quartz and handwinds just kind of sit there, whereas the rotor movement transmits a bit back to the wrist due to inertia.
