Seiko Credor Spring Drive Sonnerie

This is not your mom’s Seiko. This thing is a Spring Drive Seiko with hourly Japanese chime. It’s completely hand-made and hand-assembled and costs, well, lots.

As befits a watch of such intricacy and sophistication, the strike hammer is visible through the dual surface curved sapphire crystal. The case itself is crafted from 18-karat pink gold, which not only reflects the value of the movement but assists the purity of the sound of the chime. On the mainspring barrel of the bell mechanism, a cutout Japanese bellflower (Kikyo flower in Japanese) drifts down on a river, symbolizing the continuous flow of time. The Japanese bellflower is chosen because it is the flower of the city where the Micro Artist Studio is located.

Amazing.

This looks like the aborted mating of a Big Bang and a Audemars Piaget T3. The horror! Apparently, Zenith used to be classy.

Dot Matrix Watches

Looking very Phillipe Starck, these watches don’t it for me but they may you.

…these leather wristband watches are studded with a matrix of black LEDs that, at the touch of a button, do a funky kind of Mexican wave scroll effect and then display the time in classic Dot Matrix style – and a second press will display the date. Available in tan leather with yellow lights, or black leather with red lights, the Dot Matrix’s can display both 24hr and 12hr time, and has a built-in power saving mode, so the time or date is automatically switched off after three seconds.

Review: The Riedenschild DarkSeaDiver

Ernie at WatchUSeek is selling these things for about $205. I’m thinking of picking one up. The top crown locks down to hide the bezel adjustment and the style, reminiscent of the canteen divers of yore, is pretty hot.

First, I have to say that this watch is much nicer-looking than I ever expected it to be and seems very solidly built. The case is large, thick, and heavy and is finished very nicely with the top surfaces having a brushed finish with the sides and back being mirror polished. I mean mirror polished too! You could shave looking into the shine of this watch

Bathys 100 Fathoms

John, the creator of these beefy quartz divers, dropped us a line the other day and made us very excited about his wares. Each watch contains a Ronda quartz movement with big date and is PVD coated for corrosion resistance. Best of all? He’s retooling and will soon sell ETA automatic models.

He currently has two models, the Ultraviolet and Silver. Each sell for $375 and are 200 meters water resistant and have a sapphire crystal with waterproof straps. Big and very cool.

121TIME’s Stephane Lambiel DIY Watches

douche.gifNot quite sure who this guy is or why he matters, but 121Time seems to be getting their money’s worth out of him. He seems to be some sort of musician, so if you’re in Crans Montana, hit him up. The watches, on the other hand, look pretty hot.

ARA Watchmakers – By the Book

A great look at regulating mechanicals by ARA Master Watchmakers, creators of the Famous Silicone Strap (TM) (R) (C) etc.

Before we send a watch to a customer, we make sure it is properly regulated. Below, we will show how we regulate an eta 2824-2 movement which is found in our ARA dive watches. A watch should be regulated in three important positions: Crown Down, Dial Up and 12′Oclock Down. The fact that the eta 2824-2 has a very high beat, the accuracy can be guaranteed if regulated closely in these three positions. The higher the beat, the more accurate a watch is so it is not necessary to regulate in any more positions.

It Begins – The Attack of the Hublot Knock-Offs

Say what you want about this watch, but don’t buy it. Astute reader Einars found this cruddy Big Bang knock off on the ‘Bay. This means that some Chinese factory has geared up enough to pump these out en masse in less than, say, 9 months. Astounding.

Some pertinent specs? Sure!
