In addition to being the “Official Timekeeper” and “Official Watch” of the event through the 2006 season, the official race will be called “the 2nd Annual Watkins Glen Indy Grand Prix presented by Tissot”.
Tissot established a partnership with Danica Patrick, racer and lad-mag model, and will be announcing her T-Touch Limited Edition watch. Only 500 will be produced. Hot stuff!

Just take a look at this watch and you won’t have to wonder why they’re top notch in watches. Mmmm, Rolodex Rolex. It’s going to take a lot of panhandling to afford this.

These MP3 watches actually look halfway decent, and not like a $15 Casio. If I were into wearing music on my wrist, I’d pick one up.

No watch hands on this one—it’s got green, red and yellow LEDs to display the hours, minutes and seconds. Why it’s called a “Sun Monitor” watch: it can monitor the position of the sun. Great for knowing when you need to flip onto your back for a nice all over tan.

Chad the Watch Guy explains to laymen like me what the water “resistance” on your watch actually means.
200 meters or greater is a dive watch, a strong water resistant watch, wear it in the ocean, wear it to dive etc. 100 meters is a swim watch, pool, minor water related activities. 30 meters is a repair watch, wear it in the water and get it repaired. Most watches fall into one of these three brackets, choose the type that best suits your activities.

Jason here. I’ll be helping out the Wrist Watch Review with some posts in the upcoming weeks/months. I’m not nearly as big a watch whore as John, since, like they say about real whores, you gotta get’m while they’re young.
So I’ll start my now-sure-to-be-short tenure here with the topic of “Swiss Made” watches. What does it take to get a label of “Swiss” or have “Swiss Movement”? Apparently, not a whole lot.
What is interesting and an eye opener is how the requirement for the watch movement and case needs only to reach 50% of total value and the watch is still deemed Swiss.

Please, TokyoFlash, just stop. No more. We give up. How much longer until your watches just shoot darts into our eyes?
Time is read by splitting the display into 2 halves. Top half for hours & bottom half for minutes, and the day of the week is indicated by written characters MO, TU, WE etc that curves around the display.

I’m going to say this is a bit too dorky for my taste, but go ahead and pick it up if you want an unusual dual-time piece. See, it has watches on both sides of the band. Yeah. I know.

Hey, WWR readers, ever wanted to try your hand at blogging? I’m looking for a potential blogger to write 3-5 posts per day. Sound good? Drop me a line at john at wristwatchreview dot com.
Combine your loves of telling time and star-gazing with this Planisphere watch. Once configured, it will map out some of the more well-known constellations that should be visible from where you’re standing. Grab your telescope and head outside already!
The watch displays the constellations visible in the northern hemisphere. Just align the date and time and you can view the major constellations visible that evening. The watch features a durable brass case, scratch resistant crystal dome lens, Japanese quartz movement and a “Super Luminescent” dial that glows for 2 to 3 hours to enable you to view in dark.

As I constantly reiterate, China needs to get on the ball when it comes to watchmaking. Here is a step in the right direction. The Fitya is the watch worn by one of China’s own cosmonauts. It has a Miyota movement and a certain over/under-the-top look that grates on the eye. Nice quality, though.

Ever since the Omega Speedmaster gained cult status for being the watch certified by NASA for the Apollo program, and being the first and only watch on the moon, there is great interest by collectors for any model that has been in space. Obviously the manufacturers know this, and often use the fact as an argument to sell more watches, and raise the status and popularity of the brand.
The same goes for the Fiyta company. They don’t sell their watches outside of China as far as I know, but I was lucky enough to be able to pick one up during one of my lay-overs in Shanghai. It was for sale in high street watch dealer that sold several of the big Swiss brands, and the Fiyta was definitely one of the cheaper watches at 700RMB which at that time equaled about US$200.

Actor James Gandolfini may prefer the Kobold SEAL but gangster Tony Soprano’s crew has evidently strong armed control of Oris.
Earlier in the season, on Episode #72 of The Sopranos, Chris Moltisanti visited Hollywood to pursue his dreams of making a horror film classic. He met with actor Sir Ben Kinglsey to discuss the lead role in his opus, but Kingsley was distracted by all the free goodies in The Luxury Lounge. Chris staggered in awe of the expensive swag just thrown at celebrities and one of the main booths featured was Oris. The Oris rep gave Kingsley a “classic chrono” for his nephew and an “elegant” timepiece for himself. Prominently displayed behind the rep was the Oris logo. How prominently was the Oris placement? Enough for Jon Fine to give it an egregiousness rating of 8.5 in an article for Business Week Online.
Oris got another gangster plug on tonight’s showing of Episode #75. On the lam from his former colleagues and needing money, Vitto takes work as a handyman on a New Hampshire farm. Bored to tears with hammering nails instead of hammering on deadbeats, Vitto checks the time, expecting his day to be half-over. He’s shocked to see just how many hours of manual labor he has left, but we’re given a nice, close-up shot of another Oris timepiece.
So, it looks like The Soprano crew has taken care of that thing. You know, that timekeeping thing. With the Oris guys. It’s all handled.
Any of you blokes – that’s British for dear readers – have a spare Omega Seamaster Mid-Size steel bracelet lying about? This isn’t for the Bond but for the “sword hands” version aka the 2252.50.00.

My buddy Amit lives in Nigeria now and just bought a Vulcain Cricket GMT to celebrate a new job. He wrote a bit about his experience and it was quite moving.
I tell you what, buying the Vulcain was a real
extravagance but I didn’t do it on a whim. I’ve always known that I would
buy a nice watch at some point and when I saw the thing in a shop window I
knew that would be the one. I then made an agreement with Claire that I
would only buy it if/when I got my next job. So that watch waited for me
in that shop window for five months. In fact, although we then bought the
watch when my new job had been agreed in principle, I didn’t wear it until
the paperwork had been completed and that took another three months!! I
had my wife hide it in the house and then had to try and forget about it.
It was agony!!
