I’m actually being mean. Alpha makes eBay watches that “look” like real brands – the Omegas and Rolexi of the world – and cost about $50. As a starter piece, this is a good choice, but your best bet is going legit with a used watch or a Seiko.

Ok it does not cost a bunch ,but an owner on pmwf seems to think they keep good time.I would not call them illegitamate though, they never claim to be Rolexes anywhere on the watch .If a good price means illegitamacy then so are Vostok Amphibias.I will concede though that they look just like a watches I saw in chinatown in Nyc in 2004 .Shameless would be having the look and The(Rolex) name all over the watch.
Forgive me I miswrote .An owner on AWF likes the timekeeping on his but not the readability.Pmwf is a gross misnomer.Poor men do not spend 1000 dollars on a watch.

I purchased a ‘Alpha-Orange bezel’ 21 jewel auto (Well known Swiss- style). I wanted to see for myself
a Alpha up close. Cost £28.00. Delivery 5 days to UK. Six months on it keeps very good time, has not wound down.
The case and strap are stainless steel with good weight. The strap uses screws not pins. The glass though not saphire is glass/ crystal and very clear. The luminous markers and hands are very bright and last. I own a Seiko, Citizen, and a Rolex Sea Dweller and love them all. I would put the Alpha in the same class as the Seiko and Citizen in terms of build and quality. Angry, no, rather pleased! 67 times less than the well known swiss watch it looks like. I am sure not 67 times inferior in terms of build/ quality and time keeping. Its only fault, looking like a well known Swiss watch!

I purchased a Alpha because of Johns poor review content on a Alpha GMT. I wanted to see how bad Alpha watches are. They are not as bad as John made them out to be. They are of course not a patch on the real thing either.
I feel they offer good build against price paid.
Oh my god what do you think where they make all the seiko, doxa, Tag watches. In China. These factories are ready to make everithing they need to make. Money talks. they make TAG watch for the company for about 200 dollar than they sell in EU for 1400.
Just an update on my orange Alpha.
A year and seven months on it is working without fault. The time keeping is almost as good as my Seiko titanium Sport100 quartz. It still looks as good as the day it arrived. I really like this watch. It has proved far better than the money paid.
