New Seiko Ananta launches, looks sharp

image004Seiko’s coveted Spring Drive movement has previously only been available in Japan, however the new Ananta line will be released in the U.S. this November.

The Ananta is a mechanical watch, hand-assembled in Japan, and inspired by the ancient weapon of the Samurai warrior; the katana. There are two different models in the Ananta line, available in several different finishes. The basic model, known as the SPB017 will sell for $2100. The more advanced (chronograph) version, called the SPS009, will start at $6400. For more information, check out Seiko’s website.

The website’s too ninja. I would have preferred Seiko put out imagery of green tea related material for which I think Japan is more fondly known. When I put on a expensive watch I don’t feel like going to war… Aside from marketing, I see nothing to indicate use of special or precious materials. I wish Seiko and their master craftsman the best. I’m sure they do an excellent job otherwise.
