We’ve brought you crowd-funded watch projects before, as well as watches that help in some charitable way. This is the first one, to my knowledge, that does both in one pass.
The project is over on IndieGoGo, and is called the 1:Face Watch. At first glance, you might be tempted to dismiss it as one of the uber-present silicone strap / interchangeable dial watches out on the market, but this one is a good bit different. First off, you’ve got the retro-futuristic segmented LED display (not always on; lit up at the press of a button). Second, it actually has a tempered glass front.
Perhaps the most important difference, though, deals with the colors. Each one is actually indicating your support for a specific charity (and where the money from your purchase goes):
So, as you can see, there are some great charities here getting supported by these watch purchases. I do really like the fact that you’ve got choices as to where your money is going. Not to mention, this is a significant upgrade to the silicone bracelets that most causes have.
As with most crowd-funded efforts, there are varying levels of participation. At the pricepoint of $40, you can choose a watch of your color (and support the charity of your choice). At the $200 mark, you actually get the watch upgraded to a full touch-screen model, which is an interesting twist.
To check out the full project details, as well as the support levels, head on over to their project page. Funding for the project closed on November 19th at 11:59 PM.
