Graham Goes Vintage

Graham has shown up on our pages from time to time; when I saw their latest release come out, I knew I wanted to bring it to your attention.

As we’ve pointed out in our previous posts, Graham is a purveyor of high-end oversized watches – and this Vintage line is no exception (approx. $7300 and precisely 47mm).  Here, vintage is more in regards to the feel the design evokes and references, more than any specific heritage from their past models, at least that I can tell.

That said, I think they’ve done a nice job of making a modern vintage-style piece.  Of course the cream dial, beige lume, and distressed leather strap all contribute to that on the model up top, and has the “most” of that feel (the black dial model just doesn’t carry it as strongly, if you ask me).

As far as the heart of this beast is concerned, you have a Calibre G1734 movement, which is an automatic bi-compax chronograph with 48 hour power reserve and a date display (odd location for that at 7 o’clock, though).  Controlling the chrono you’ve got the textured pushers flanking the crown; readouts are via the oversized subdials at 3 and 9.

I find a lot to like about this watch, in terms of design and functionality.  Of course, at this price point, it’s not one I can recommend (or not), as there are different criteria at work for those purchases.  If you’re in the market for a high-end modern “vintage” piece, you probably should give this one a look.
