Does Whatever A Spider Can

Well, perhaps not – can spiders tell time?  Sure, some can give a photographer superpowers, but I don’t think it could tell time.  The Kisai Spider from TokyoFlash, on the other hand, can, in their usual quirky style.

So, first off, the most quirky thing about this watch is the see-through LCD.  Generally speaking, LCDs of this nature are see through to begin with, but they would normally have a backing that allows electronics to hide.  Here, I imagine that’s all in the outer edges of the case.  Either way, it’s a neat trick, and could lead to some rather odd tan lines in the summer, if you’re not careful.

The other quirk, of course, is how the time is displayed.  It’s somewhat similar to what we saw in previous models we wrote about (see here), but this is of it’s own design of course.  I have a feeling that this one has a fairly steep learning curve, since the numbers are nesting in on each other.  But, if you can figure it out, you’ve got one heck of a party trick, right?

In terms of functionality, this is fairly standard for the TF product catalog – time in 12 or 24 hour mode, date display, always-on LCD and a backlight.  The one omission is an alarm, but I think that’s due to constraints that the see-through aspect imposed.

In the end, it’s an intriguing watch that you’ll make a commitment to for being able to read it.  If you order here in the next day or so, you’ll be able to pick one up for $159; after that, the pricing goes up to the regular $179 (product page is here).
