We recently received word of this new model from Steinhart, and you know me – I’m a sucker for bronze cases.  So, what does Steinhart have in store for us with this model?

The watch is called the Marine Officer Bronze - and thought it’s made of bronze, it truly looks to me like more of a brass, in terms of coloration.  Frankly, though, that works – take a look at just about any boat, and you’re going to see brass all over the place, so it works for a theme.  The case itself is 44mm (16mm thick), and features a satin finish, as does the tachymeter bezel.

Of course, if you have that bezel, you’d better have a chronograph – and you do here, powered by the ever-present ETA 2824-2 (Elabore grade) automatic movement.  Those are driving the various hands around the green dial found under the domed and AR-coated sapphire crystal (only a mineral crystal around back).  When you combine that dial color with the case and the distressed 22mm leather strap, it’s a really classic color combination.

All in all, it’s a pretty intriguing watch, though I think more for folks who prefer a gold-tone watch – so this is actually one bronze case I might pass on.  I also noted another oddity – for being a nautical-themed watch, you only have a water resistance rating of 30m; this means it’s not rated to withstand more than a splash.  If those items don’t concern you, you can pick one up outside the EU for about $995 (860 EUR within the EU) right here.
