While this particular article verges on the Historical Horology posts I’ve been doing, it’s not quite the same thing – hence it’s showing up today, rather than tomorrow. Either which way,it’s a fairly informative read – just a little surprising to see watch tech over on Gizmodo.
In the article, it lightly covers some of the history of watch movements, and then dives into how a quartz movement works, and why it’s accuracy is much greater than what a mechanical has on offer.
The article (link) is a fairly quick read, but it gives you a nice overview. Of course, most of us already know owning that a mechanical watch is not a purely practical thing to do – but we love ‘em all the same.
