Magrette is offering fans a chance to order a new watch from them, the Leoncino (Little Lion), an automatic that takes its design cues from the styles of the 60s. The case is a squared off cushion style, with lugs that taper from the edges of the case to the strap. The finish is polished stainless steel (brushed on the sides), perfect to go with bright chrome fenders. The dial, however, that is pure Magrette DNA with a clean modern look.
Right now, there are only specifications and renderings to go off of, but the brand is well known for the quality of their watches (I do not have one, but Patrick and another friend do), so I would not hesitate to jump in and put down a deposit if the styling is to your liking. You can pre-order here, with a refundable deposit of $150 toward the final price of $625 (plus $30 shipping). The watch will be produced in limited quantities, numbered out of a series of 667. The watch is equipped with an automatic and hand winding Miyota 9015 movement, with a hacking second hand, and it has a sapphire crystal both up front an for the exhibition caseback. The strap is a lined leather strap with red stitching, and the package includes a second tan strap. In keeping with the retro look, the crystal is double domed, while the 42mm diameter gives it modern appeal and the 200m water resistance is in keeping with the brand heritage.
Magrette will be shipping the watch in the brand’s new packaging, which looks like a lovely travel set for packing a second watch on any journey (you can see the kit here). All in all, there is a lot to recommend with this watch if the styling works for you. It is fairly uncommon to get a numbered limited edition watch at this price point, so you are not likely to run across too many of these out in the wild. magrette.com
