When Hublot first launched the Big Bang I was When Hublot first launched the Big Bang I was totally down with the watch. It had a unique style and size as well as a nice pedigree and cost about $15K, not horrible for a watch of this caliber. Now they’re just getting greedy.

My buddy Scott had a Storm watch for teaching. Instead of glancing at his watch while he was at the lectern he would wear an earlier model of the Storm and check the time only when absolutely necessary because the central iris closes when you’re not checking the time.
This new model, which costs about $180 has updated styling and seems to mimic the Hublot Big Bang without that whole “this costs $100,000 for no reason” thing.

Velociphile is not one to mince words, but he really tears my beloved Big Bang (Hublot continues “their dull theme of apeing the Royal Oak albeit without nicely aligned bezel screws”) a new pooper. The most egregious offense? Calling a modified ETA movement an “in-house” piece.
My view is simple. The predominating IP in this design is from outside ETA/Valjoux. All the tricky side of it, the tolerancing, productionisation and so on was hard won by Valjoux a long time ago. Making it to drawing is easy peasy; simply substituting another material and upgrading with a few bushes and bits and bobs no great shakes. I have no evidence but would surmise Hublot still buy in the geartrain and possibly escapement from ETA. And, you can anglage and polish it till you can see your face think Lemania 2310 in Patek 5070 but it doesnt change its genes and the fact that Hublot had NO part in creating the base clever, super cheap and effective tractor. However, admittedly, what theyve done is at least one step – no lets be generous two steps – up from buying in a finished movement.

And you thought the Big Bang could only create all matter in a split second of cosmic energy. Hublot is now building a crazy island in Second Life to show off its watches and will even offer some sort of online sales.
Hublot – the Swiss luxury watchmaker – today revealed that it is to launch a Hublot island in the virtual world of Second Life. On 12th September, Hublot promises to open its virtual doors to all Second Life residents and journalists. After 6 months of development in partnership with Akira Web SA of Luxembourg, Hublot’s state of the art premises includes luxurious bars, a marina, exhibition area and even an online shop!

Hublot had me with the Big Bang for a while, but my interest is recently waning. However, I do like this amazing $80K Flying T, one of only 8 made.

Tasty! A new, 44mm JLC with GMT hand. Pretty beefy.
I have just handled two of the three pieces (this one and the chrono) and the Ti piece is very light. There’s a bit of Hublot in there, a bit of Offshore and from side-on a Sinn U1 feel – in fact it is a bit tuna-canny. I guess there’s only so many shapes you can play with for a dive watch…

Hublot! What are you thinking!
Hublot Big Bang Diamond Watch [PROFESSIONAL WATCHES]
Looks like Hublot has finally jumped the shark with the Big Bang. They’ve driven it so deeply into the ground that even guys like Chad, who SELLS watches for a living, is sick of it. I liked it at first – it has a nice style, a nice heritage, and a nice story. However, now that they’ve covered it over with rose gold, diamonds, and elf sprinkles, I’m getting kind of tired of it.

Ehh? I’m kind of getting tired of the Big Bang. I saw it in the shop the other day and was unimpressed – it was kind of chintzy looking. This one looks cooler, but Hublot needs to stop flogging this or else we’ll all get tired.
UPDATE – This is by Hublot and Luna Rossa is some fancy sailing team, FYI.
This a new sponsoring agreement made with Luna Rossa (which belongs in majority to Prada) in order to make a special Big Bang, all in the materials used in the America’s Cup boat. Full ceramic, Kevlar, carbon, titanium and rubber. A total synergy between the boat and the watch plus a total synergy between the two brands. Which are both not only luxury brands, but work both with the “fusion “concept. In fact we could not have a better partner, 1000 watches will be made and will be sold all over the world including in some of the Prada’s flagship stores of Italy.A phenomenal event for Hublot and a great opportunity to join the America’s Cup!Deliveries will only start in November. The watch is a 44,5mm ceramic Big Bang (same case as All Black, but with a special carbon dial bearing the log of Luna Rossa).
