Wii watch

December 13th, 2006 2 comments

Wiiwatch
Never mind the 1.9 miilion you could spend on a Patek, here on eBay, you could buy piece of history. That’s right, a launch watch for the Nintendo Wii. According to the auctioner only 200 of these bad boys were ever made (read rebadged) and could be yours for a paltry 60 quid.
Notwithstanding the allure of this “sports-style stainless steel quartz, with second hand, rotating bezel and magnified date.” I would rather have a wiimote on my wrist than this.

No You Can’t Have One for Xmas

December 5th, 2006 No comments

ChristiesA recent watch sale at Christie’s in Geneva netted a total of $15.6 million dollars, with the number one item, “a gold 1925 Patek Philippe “Grogan” single-button split-second chronograph, made for a left-handed wearer.” going for a hefty $1.9 million. This is reportedly the highest price for a watch at a Christie’s auction. The runner up, “The James Schulz platinum single-button chronograph features a minute-repeating calendar.” went for a mere $1.09 million.
The record for the most expensive watch ever goes to another Patek, a hair over $11 million ($11,003,500 to be precise). That one was sold by Sotheby’s in 1999. And you can’t have that one either.

Tag Heuer Belt Driven Watch

December 1st, 2006 No comments

Monaco v4
Not necessarily new to our dear readers, but interesting non the less, is the Monaco V4 belt driven watch. One of 4 TH concept watches, the belt driven watch uses a mechanism that uses “an oscillating linear weight that falls back and forth within the central shaft – transmitting the energy to the four ball bearing barrels”. To fully grok what they are talking about head on over to Tag’s website and check out their video to show just how clever they are here.
This seems the most innovative of their 4 concept watches and one I would be interested in seeing how it felt on the wrist.

Another new for today – Linde Werdelin

November 17th, 2006 7 comments

LindeWerdelin
So a new watch maker Linde Werdelin has come to our attention. While I dont love the Flash website, I do like the look of a number of their models.
They have 2 basic models – the Elemental and Two-Timer, the Elemental uses an ETA 2892-2 elaborée mechanical movement whilst the Two-Timer has an ETA 2893-2 elaborée mechanical movement to provide two time zones. Each has a 42-hour power reserve, a calendar at 4 o’clock – and a personalised LINDE WERDELIN oscillating weight.
There is an add on for either of these models which turns the watch into what they are calling a Biformeter essentially is is an add on computer which can display various functions, like a compass, altimeter, barometer and even heart rate. One of the founders, Morten Linde believes: “Analogue is how you read watches. Digital is how you assimilate technical details.” and so they have created this add on to enable you to do this. The technology behind the computer unit is pretty spiffy too including “- A state-of-the-art wireless sensor network allows up to 1 Mbit/second data transfer at a distance of up to 50 metres. The network is compatible with numerous types of sensor and input/output devices.”

Anyway, enough of my rambing, head on over to www.lindewerdelin.com and check them out.

Have a great weekend.

Bathy vsmall

I think the site mirrors Bathy’s bold designs and showcases them in an clean, elegant way.
