A Man and His Watch

BIG Watch Forum member Nad travelled to Shanghai. Luckily for us, he took about 500 pictures of the flight, his Panerai GMT, and the carpet. It’s actually quite fun.

Review: Timex TX 730

I wrote a review for my “day job” site, CrunchGear.com, of the Timex TX 730. Head on over and check it out.
Timex has long been the butt of countless jokes. A brand that used to take a licking and keep on ticking has been reduced to bargain bin quartz pieces with a few bright lights like the Ironman series to keep it afloat. Well, Timex has pulled a complete 180 and released a watch that I can honestly say is a step forward for the brand and, dare I say it, everyday horology.

Bulgari: The Ugly Stick?

Someone at Bulgari must have bought titanium futures because this diver is so thick and, dare I say it, ostentatious that I want to maybe make a little puke. I really never liked Bulgari and this kind of tells me why. That knife looks cool, though.

Scoring Watches

Watchismo put together a nice collection of sports watches designed for scoring matches. The sub-dials simply rotate with each push of the button, marking up to four scores in a match. Crazy stuff. Didn’t they have paper?

Among the Watchmakers

A great photo reportage on a German watchmaker in his little studio plus some amazing watch shots.
When visiting german watchmaker Christian Klings recently I felt reminded of this old term, not only because his tiny workshop, also on the top floor under the roof exactly meets this descriptions; also his style of watchmaking comes very, very close. Few has been written about Christian Klings and different from the few “stars” among the AHCI his name isnt that well known even among those, more focused on the world of independents.

Vintage Wrist Radios
Watchismo does it again. They have a full round up of vintage transistor radio watches that looks part Dick Tracy and part Blade Runner. Crazy stuff.

Rolex Reborn

An AMAZING look at restoring an old Rolex.
Alright, further examination of the watch confirms the above – there’s really nothing wrong with the exterior of the watch that a good cleaning and polishing won’t fix. There’s no rust or major physical trauma. And it looks like the watch hasn’t been polished much before, which is a good thing – some watches of this age have been over polished. So with the cursory inspection complete, it’s now time to begin disassembling the watch for cleaning and further inspection. The first order of business is to remove the bracelet and check between the lugs.

Math Watches: Not Just For Nerds
A great look at the nerd watches of old. They’re not quite as cool as the calculator watches of my childhood, but look at this Tag!

Two Fave Watch Posts
Forum has two threads: show us your fave Scorpion wrist shots and your overall favorite wrist shot.
If you need someplace to upload your images, try Flickr or Photobucket (my personal fave).
The Apple iWatch: It Could Happen

Worth1000 is doing a “make up your own Apple product contest and they have a few interesting entries featuring the iWatch. Possible? Probably not. Cool? Yes.
Nicolas Delaloye Geneve

This is what watchmaking is all about. Beautiful workmanship on an all but obsolete mechanical device. This is what we’re all searching for when we talk about watch collecting. Striking. Expensive… but striking.
