Video: A Look At The Fastest Chronograph Watch Ever Made

September 27th, 2011 No comments

The TAG Heuer Mikrotimer from HODINKEE on Vimeo.

This video shows TAG Heuer’s Mikrotimer Flying 1000 Concept watch in action. This mechanical watch times things to 1/1000th of a second – 300 times faster than a human blink. As the watch spins maniacally, it’s actually meting out 1/1000ths of a second at 500 Hz. That means the small balance wheel inside pops back and forth 3.6 million times an hour – a speed that would shatter many mechanical systems.

A great look at the nerd watches of old. They’re not quite as cool as the calculator watches of my childhood, but look at this Tag!

Tag Heuer Phones: Looks Like They’re Real

January 25th, 2007 1 comment

1-18-07-tagheuerwatchphone_200x148shkl.jpgWristDreams is reporting that the rumored Tag Heuer phones are real.

Dial-a-Phone has alleged that the new phone device will be “a completely new design,” which can’t be said for some brands like the D&G RAZR, which lacked originality save for the gold finish and ridiculously high price.

Tag Heuer Phone (??)

January 3rd, 2007 5 comments

Rumor has it that Tag Heuer, makers of fancy watches, is releasing a cellphone designed by ModeLabs, a French company that designs phones companies MTV and Virgin Mobile. The phone will be made of stainless steel and take design cues from the other watches in the Tag line-up.

This appears to be a direct shot at Nokia’s Vertu line, which means someone at LVMH, Heuer’s parent company, must have woken up from a long nap and noticed that the times were a’ changing.

The phone will probably look something like the Carrera over there, Heuer’s flagship watch. I was personally never in love with their work — too many cheap looking quartz watches and too few cool looking monsters — but we shall see, won’t we?

When Morons Attack

Tag Heuer Carrera Mens Watch CV2010.BA0786This quote from this WuS thread says it all.

A dufus came into the shoppe yesterday wearing a fairly new TAG
Carrara Chrono. One of the pushers had fallen out and so to make the
watch look “even,” this brain dead twit pulled out the other pusher
with a pair of pliers. To top it off, he wasn’t going to have it repaired,
plus he has a girlfriend! I hope they don’t get married and
have kids.

BaselWorld 2006 – Tag Heuer Monaco Calibre 360 LS

March 31st, 2006 5 comments

01cbe44c66960ab7df1a5f54bd5fc0c7.jpgLike the Formula 1 cars Volvo regularly races, this watch has very little to do with the entire Tag Heuer line. However, it is very cool. It has 1/10, 1/100, and 1/1000 of a second registers and is completely mechanicl. Power reserve and an unmentional price tag round out the impressive package.

Tasty New Heuers

tag-heuer-carrera-mtc.jpgI never was in love with TAG Heuer, but these new chronographs are making my ears perk up. You’ve got two new models here, a new SLR and a new Carrera. The Carrera is the standard Heuer chrono, kind of avant garde, kind of traditional, but the SLR has some great lines.

Review: Sorna Bullhead Chronograph

January 18th, 2006 9 comments

sornaface.jpg

In an effort to find an inexpensive, vintage chronograph, I’ve been hunting on Ebay for Sorna watches. The Sorna brand, which was once a relatively powerful figure in the mechanical industry – laid to waste, obviously, by the flood of cheap quartz pieces in the 1980s – is now being used to flog those selfsame cheap quartz pieces that I had no interest in. The only other Sorna piece I could find, then, was a nasty world time watch that looked like Captain America had just gotten over some constipation. Therefore, I was stuck with considering Jacky Ickx bullhead chronos. Instead of a Jacky Ickx, however, I just picked up just an “Icky” Sorna chronograph that has a certain, if dubious, charm.
