Matt Waldman at Nooka has done it again. The Zaz is a see-through watch with an LCD sandwiched onto a transparent surface. You tell time by counting the blocks and reading the growing minutes bar and it comes with a black, silver, or white band.

At $380 it’s a bit pricier than some Nooka models but it’s still badass. Watchismo just started to sell them or you can check them out at Nooka.com. It seems they’re on pre-order right now.

Remember when the multi-colored iPod nano ads came out? How you were all like “Ohhh… I’d like the orange one maybe. And the black one is amazing!” Well, here is Too Late, a watch company that truly attacks that weird hunter-gatherer node in the brain that encourages us to like bright colors.

We saw this watch on our travels through Roma and I had to share it with you. The company is based in Italy and they make them in two sizes, although both were too small for me. The watches are ostensibly waterproof and come in little glass jars.


Truth be told, the watch is junk. It’s just a lump of quartz stuck inside a rubber band. But my, they are alluring. At 16 euro – about $20 – they’re just this side of a good deal and if anything they make a nice fashion statement.

You can buy them here and I’ll have a full review after my wife wears it for a few days. They even come in glow-in-the-dark models! They’re no Nooka, but if you care more about your watchband not clashing with your Pumas and less about the movement or feature set, this is a cool watch.

After years of suffering, watch geeks are finally getting products dedicated to their quirky and specific tastes. Sure, any oldster can sport a gold Rolex, but what is an Emo kid with a gadget fetish to wear? A Swatch?

Companies like Tokyoflash and Nooka have filled that techno-void with watches that are both high-tech and cool looking. Now, add another member to that selfsame roster.

I’ve been clearly failing our dedicated watch readers with my coverage of odd and sexy designs. Take the Nooka Zirc for example. It has a 45mm face with a 22mm band and looks like a Dick Tracy watchphone — but isn’t. The dots show the hour and the long bar shows the minutes. It’s $350 but trust me, Matt Waldman makes a mean watch.

Looks like Nooka has got some lawsuit worthy IP-theft going on. NeoLog and Lexon are selling watches – probably from the same Chinese factory – that look just about like the ZEN-V if you squint. Anyone tried these things yet?
