Why is that? Well, Oris has this listed as one of their Aviation models (owing due to the design’s origin in an earlier pilot watch), but for me, it has more of a dress watch feel. If nothing else, this would be a great watch for the office (from a looks standpoint).

I love the easy to read dial, the over-sized seconds hand, and how they’ve oriented the day and date display. Most watches will have this showing up at the 3 o’clock position, resulting in a somewhat unbalanced feel. Here, though, you have it stacked at the 6 o’clock position, enabling a very symmetric (left to right) look and feel.

Beating away inside the 42mm stainless steel case you have an in-house automatic (26 jewel) movement working away at 28,800 BPH. You also have an AR-coated sapphire crystal protecting the dial, and a mineral crystal display back allowing you to see that movement at work. With the strap (at 22mm), you’ve got three options – brown leather as shown here, black rubber or a stainless steel bracelet.

I chose the brown leather model to highlight as it had the best deal on Amazon, as mentioned at the top of the post. While the watch itself retails for almost $1200, Amazon has it on offer for under $650 (the other models are discounted as well, but hover north of $800). Given the pricing I’m founding around the web, this seems like a bargain – and leaves you some spare change to get a black leather band to turn it into a true dress watch.

Often here on WWR, we focus in watches that really aren’t meant to be on the wrists of children. However, I ran across a deal today that I just had to share, as it combines two great things – watches and Lego.

Over on AlphaShark, you can pick up a Lego Star Wars Darth Vader watch, or Chronograph, for $16 (use the coupon code LEGOTIME2 for an additional $2 off). Are these high-end pieces? Absolutely not! However, if there’s a child* in your home that loves Lego**, and you’re looking for a way to introduce them to watches, this is an excellent (and affordable) way to do so. For your money, you get a Japanese quartz movement, 50 m water resistance (though I’d be hesitant to test that out too far), and a plastic band that you can add as many Lego onto as you want. Who knows? Maybe you’ll inspire the next great watch designer!

* This writer will not judge you if you simply want one for yourself!

** Who doesn’t love Lego?

I haven’t written about Marvin yet but these guys make some striking, classic pieces at prices that are actually astounding. Take this <a HREF="“>old girl here, the M103. This is a Valjoux 7750 chrono movement with day and date register and it costs $1,790. This is the same movement that is in almost every watch you see out there including a lot of the stratospheric $6000+ brands.

The watches are assembled in Switzerland and shipped out of the U.S.A.

Anyway, the M103 has some nice racing colors and comes on a leather strap. They’ve also got the M109 that looks like a cubist’s dream and the M112 that looks like something Grandpa used to take off when he used to slug bouncers during Prohibition. Great stuff.
