The designer, David Sokosh, slaps a huge Unitas movement into new cases and then pops on new hands and a face. He sells some of them at Brooklyn Flea and a few online, but obviously these are limited editions.

I’ve always wanted a mechanical Swiss Army watch. It’s been a private dream of mine, stuck somewhere between the jet-pack and dating Milla Jovovich. I know that Victorinox once made mechanicals but now they’re making them again, and I couldn’t be happier. There are two models one with an “olive and cream dial with luminescent hands and numerals on a genuine brown leather strap for $1695 and a black dial with PVD case and bracelet for $1895, not too bad for a Valjoux 7750. My favorite is this Black Square Chrono which is sadly sold out but the rest of the models are very hard-edged and masculine. I’m not a big quartz man myself but pop over and check them out.

OK. I just suffered a fairly hair-raising situation with my new baby. Due to my own carelessness, I dinged the Jaeger a few times and wanted to polish them out. I got a few types of polish including one designed for delicate metals and tried to do it by hand. BAD IDEA. This created a fog of fine scratches that only I could really see but that drove me crazy nonetheless. So I tried Flitz by hand. More scratches. I was at wits end.
