The February 2017 WWR Giveaway: a Padron Selby

Back in September, Ken reviewed the then-latest model from Padron, the Padron Selby.  With a now-launched project on Kickstarter, we thought it was a fine time for us to give you a crack at winning your own Padron Selby.

As you can see from the photos (and from Ken’s review), this is very much a retro-futuristic watch.  This often times takes the form of a digital watch with red-segment displays, but that is not what we have here.  No, we have instead a watch driven by a top-grade ETA 2824, complete with a crazy angular=and-curved case, paired up to custom bracelet that matches the design of the watch.

This is, indeed, a rather interesting watch, visually.  It does look rather unlike anything else out there, and I think Padron hit his mark of coming up with a watch from the 60s that had been designed to look like a watch of our current day.  There are not a lot of these out there – only 1,000 examples – and this month, we have your opportunity to win your very own.

To enter this contest, we’ve got our familiar two-part process:

  1. Comment below on what your favorite retro-futuristic watch design is
  2. Head on over to the giveaway page and complete your entry.

Our thanks to Padron for sponsoring this giveaway; to our readers, good luck!

  • Well.. it’s hard to tell since I never own such design. However, being a geek I would love to sink in yet another hobby that is mechanical watches. After all, last year I finally embraced mechanical keyboards…

  • Evgeniy Lagutkin

G.Gerlach “Kosmonauta” watch has very impressive retro-futuristic design. In my wish list.

  • Have to pick just one? Lip chronograph or an original Omega Flightmaster and …oo to go totally off the wall Tag Heuer microtimer.. case looks like it’s from an earlier age than the display.

  • Hrvoje Holett Hadzic

Hard to say. I guess any but very simplistic. I have one Certina with very simple design. Reliable.

  • DeaconMac

I don’t generally like any retro-futuristic watches that I’ve seen. Just to be sure, I just googled “retro-futuristic watch” images and scanned several pages and didn’t spot a single watch that I found appealing. I eliminated all the digital readouts immediately — those are watches to me, their cheap imitation (even when they’re priced in 5 or 6 figures). I prefer a traditional look. Yet, this Padron Selby is very appealing. I think that’s because the styling is reminiscent of an old 1949 Republic Studios scifi serial, The Rocketman, that used to thrill me for 15¢ on Saturday mornings at the Bijou. It looks like a watch the Rocketman would have worn proudly … as would I.

  • Mason Delpino

My favorite I’ve seen so far is the Devon Tread 2!

  • SeanM

    This Pedron watch looks fantastic

  • Anthony C.

    The Cabestan Nostromo looks neat.

  • Roger Rabbit

    Autodromo Group B

  • Elijs Dima

This one looks interesting. But it would be boring to say “this”, so for an alternative “retro-revival” design…

The Hamilton Ventura Elvis80, the quartz-model-with-steel-bracelet. (I actually bought one recently… While hamilton’s build quality was not as good as I’d hoped, the design was greeeeeeaaaaatttt). Not necessarily a ‘retro watch’ shape, but lots of echoes to the swooping lines of the extravagant automobiles of the 1950s (think beetle-rears, prominent yet curved headlights in wheel arch columns…)

  • Perry

I was looking at the Orient Neo70s line until your Padron report. Nicely done. I especially like the crown. Reminds me of an older “automotive” machining style back in the day…

  • LapYoda

I love the wild creations from MB&F, like the HM4, 5, and 6.

  • Skootertrash

    The Seiko Ripley!

  • Like Issey Miyake just wish they had mechanicals

  • Josh

I’m smitten for the Longines Heritage 1969

  • 123dlb

It is very modern looking in a 1960’s way

  • Gary Wright

Omega Spacemaster X33. Unusual, a cult watch now, but certainly futuristic (and yet the future has proved to be very traditional with most watches)

  • Jorge Estevao

My favourite retro-futuristic watch design is the pentagon shape with a dial with no curves.

  • Kristian Haagen

    No doubt Omega Spacemaster X33

  • Tien Tran

Watches give a sense of uniqueness. You feel like you have control over time. I would like to have a beautiful watch to look forward to and to remember past events.
