Our pal Matt Himmelstein is back with another Kickstarter watch, the Mouve M01.  If you ask me, this one definitely has hints of Panerai and/or Tsovet – which I’ll leave to you as to whether or not that’s a good thing.  Read on to see what Matt thought of the watch.

Didn’t get the automatic watch you wanted for Christmas?  Maybe you couldn’t find the right one as a gift with everything else you had to buy.  Well a new Kickstarter campaign is offering a nice military styled automatic for the low price of $260 (early bird black or gunmetal) to $400 (stealth model).  The campaign is hoping for a May delivery date, so you might be able to pick this up in time for Father’s Day or graduation (for you forward planners out there).

For less that $500, and most rewards at or south of $300, you really can’t expect an ETA under the hood, and the Mouvement watch sources a Seagull ST 2130, a very similar movement to the ETA 2824 and well regarded in its own right.  The rest of the watch is well spec’ed, with a domed sapphire crystal, mineral glass case back, stainless PVD case and Super-LumiNova for readability at night.  The watch is a beefy 44mm (49 with the screw down crown) by 10mm thick, and it is rated to 10ATM.  It is being made in Hong Kong by LeTemps.

Super-LumiNova hands & markers

The Stealth model, though not my favorite of the three, looks like it has unique markers for the brand, with everything cut in relief into the dial.  With all three watches, the date wheel has been modified so that the background and typeface better integrate with the watch’s style, a nice touch and attention to detail you often do not get at this price point.  This is one where I am actually jumping on-board (my second Kickstarter watch), ordering the gunmetal for $260 (serial number 0009/1000).  With my pledge, they are just shy of 10% of their funding goal of $190,000, a pretty high target.
