For today’s Afternoon Beer Break, we’re going to talk about one of my favorite summertime, camping-cooler-ready, beers. I mentioned in the Revolution Every Day Hero that it was ok, but it was a distant second to my favorite session IPA. Well, friends, here it is, in the #1 slot – the Founders Brewing All Day IPA.

Why is the Founders Brewing All Day IPA my favorite one for camping? Well, for starters, you’ve got to go with flavor. If it doesn’t taste good, no sense in packing it in a cooler, right? I find that the Founders Brewing All Day IPA has a crisp note to it, with a hint of a tart citrus up front that gives way to a single smooth note. While some IPAs can load up on hops to get some interesting flavor profiles (and I like those too, but for different reasons), this is one that is not overly hopped. This means it’s not as bitter as some you might run across, reflected in the (relatively) mild IBU rating of 42.

Next up, when thinking about summertime camping, you want to consider what the ABV is you’re dealing with. As we talked about before, session beers tend to be under 5%. This is critical because, while you’re looking to a beer be, well, a beer, when you’re off in the woods you’re also looking for some refreshment. AKA, you probably will want to have more than one in the evening, and the lower ABV means you can quite easily pace yourself and not overdo it (sunrise comes early outdoors, friends!). As an added bonus, that lower ABV generally translates into a lower-calorie sip as well, so hey, even better!

Finally, what about the artwork on the can? I mean, just look at the woody on the Founders Brewing All Day IPA – that’s one family truckster that is ready to head off into the woods. Thematically-appropriate, check! I cannot recommend this beer enough for those who are looking to fill up their cooler with something that is light and refreshing for their summertime activities. And hey – as an added bonus – the case packs come in cans of 15, rather than the standard 12. So, bonus beers! To-date, the Founders Brewing All Day IPA is by far my favorite camping cooler filler, and feel free to hit me up over on Instagram if you think you can prove me wrong, or hey, even just give me some other recommendations.
