I’ve seen quite a few bronze-encased watches as of late – but this is on the first one that claims (and seems to have proven) that it’s bomb-proof.
Kavenstsmann is a small (one-man) shop located in Berlin, turning out some rather interesting small-batch pieces. The Triggerfish A2 is the focus of this post, being as it’s made out of CuSn8 .
Of course, just being a bronze case, that’s not so rare these days. However, when that case (and crystal) can stand up to a 3000m water resistance rating, now you know you have something tough. Or, if you’d prefer a more destructive testing method (from this article):
However, it also subsequently survived another, rather more violent test carried out by U.S. special forces soldiers involving 10lbs of C4.
That explosive experience, from a distance of one metre, left the case and crown intact, with just a few scratches on its crystal lens.
The movement was shocked by the blast, but the watch’s maker told MailOnline he has developed a new holder for the mechanism that would survive future tests.
Suffice to say, this is one 44mm (20mm thick) case that will stand up to whatever you can throw at it, and will keep the ETA 2892 A2 quite safe.
