Not that we’d need a special occasion to don a square, but Casio has just announced a limited edition G-Shock DW5600 that commemorates the 40th anniversary of the first Space Shuttle launch.

Says Casio:

“The new limited-edition timepiece comes in a black and white case and band combination to bring forth the aesthetic of the OV-102 space shuttle. Design elements include a minimalist white dial with red NASA logo, stainless steel case back with an engraved silhouette of the shuttle, an American flag printed on the band loop and black ion-plated buckle. This timepiece arrives in custom packaging with an outer box which reflects STS-1 Mission statistics and an inner tin that depicts the mission’s 2-day orbit around the earth.”

Mostly, we like this new limited edition, and definitely dig the two-tone design as well as the shuttle on the back of the case. Victor did point out, however, right before we recorded this week’s episode of The HourTime Show, that the white around the LED is a little on the barren side, and perhaps could have used… something to liven it up. The shuttle that pops up when activating the illumination is also something we’d have to get used to.

This is the second G-Shock that’s caught our attention in recent days.

Casio has just started selling “Casioaks” that are about two millimeters smaller than the one we looked at earlier this year for a retail price of $99. Given how quickly the original Casioak sold out, you should probably act quickly if any of these new colors appeal to you. They’re marketed toward women, but if you’re someone like me who has a slightly thinner wrist then you might prefer these to the OG ones.

The limited edition G-Shock DW5600 will retail for $140 and will be available for pre-order on April 12 at gshock.com. It’ll be available for purchase at select retailers, including the G-Shock store in Soho in NYC, later this month.

The specs from Casio:

Shock Resistance
200M Water Resistance
EL Backlight with Afterglow
Flash Alert
1/100 Second Stopwatch
Multi-Function Alarm
Countdown Timer
12/24 Hr. Formats

Thank you for reading this WristWatchReview post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

WristWatchReview is one of the few remaining truly independent watch news outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent watch sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis. We don't play the games the other sites play and we've paid for it when it comes to ad revenue.

We would love for you to support us on Patreon and every little bit helps. Thank you.
