Yes, that’s right – there’s some Pimp My Ride levels of recursion going on here. However, if a brand is going to try and reinvent itself – and further separate from the parent it sprang from – then a new book isn’t the worst way to go. The new book? ACCUTRON: From the Space Age to the Digital Age.
Surprising no one, the Accutron Show has just done an episode talking about some behind-the-scenes stuff involved with getting Accutron (the watch brand) back onto wrists. Here’s what they’ve got to say about the episode:
While we may not tend to think of the fashions that came out of the 60s and 70s as being anything particularly timeless or classic (in the traditional sense, at least), there are some elements of it that do persist. For instance – while Ivy League style really took hold in the 1950s, it continued on into the 1960s and lead directly into the “preppy style”. And a watch that captured that style back then has been re-introduced – the Accutron Legacy 412.
For Accutron (or Bulova, if that’s how your memory works; that said, the brands are distinct now) the Spaceview of the 1960s was a revelation. It shouldn’t be any surprise that the re-launched Accutron brand would go back to that design for inspiration. What IS a surprise is the movement that’s taking up home in the Bulova Spaceview 2020 and DNA.
