Joel at BBG posted this great video of the Girard-Perregaux Scuderia Ferrari Foudroyante Rattrapante. It’s a split second time with Foudroyante (trans. “jumping hand”) complication which displays 1/8 of a second. This is actually the first time I had heard of the complication and looks pretty wacky. Interestingly, Panerai does one too with probably the same movement.
Very cool. G-P gave the ANF a free, one-of-a-kind watch to raffle off for victims of Hurricane Felix.
“Virtus White” is an utterly exclusive piece handcrafted by Girard-Perregaux for ANF. The only one ever manufactured of its kind, this extraordinary watch was created to strengthen ANF’s efforts of providing hope and relief to children and families such as those affected by Hurricane Felix. Through the Foundation’s “Bright Future Reconstruction Fund” and relief operations, ANF seeks to rebuild lives and create new sources of opportunity. All suggested contributions of $100 made to the Foundation will merit participation in this historic drawing for Girard-Perregaux’s “Virtus White.”
G-P is 220 this year and they want you to pop in to see their sexy, sexy old watches. They’re bringing a travelling exhibit to a few cities including New York, Singapore, and London and they’ll be showing off some of their finest G-Ps from years past.
If you think modern horology was something, imagine building massively complex watches with hand tools and natural light. These things are pretty amazing in their own right and impressive artifacts of days gone by.
Girard-Perregaux, to those not familiar with watch lore, is a watchmaker founded in 1791 and that now produces handmade, manufacture pieces in the mid- to high-level range. I”ve been a longtime fan of the brand – they usually come up with designs that are timeless and more classic than, say, Concord, and less fuddy-duddy than IWC and other traditional makers. The watch we”re looking at today, the Chrono Hawk, is G-P”s lower-end addition to their catalog (if “lower end” and G-P can ever appear in the same sentence.)
