Ok, so the trend I started to predict last week (about a string of watches that prominently featured different date displays) didn’t hold true, but I do have a continuity for you – today we’re going to talk about another new model from Christoper Ward. This time, we’re going to have a look at their latest version of the C7 Chronometer, this time around in Italian Racing Red.
This isn’t actually the first time we’re seeing a CW watch with the Ferrari red dial. The last time it came around, it was a limited edition, and was snapped up rather quickly. So, to feed that hunger for this particular style, they’ve come back with a new edition, following in the styling footsteps of the first.
What distinguishes this particular model (aside from the Hello Officer red dial, of course) is the movement ticking away. Yes, it’s a quartz one, but it’s the thermo-compensated ETA 251.233 COSC – which means you should have one of the most accurate chronographs in your watchbox in the form of this watch.
Yes, mechanical chronographs are themselves works of art and watch design prowess. If you’re looking for absolute accuracy, time and again, however, quartz is going to be your ally. This particular movement selection also helps the 42mm case come in at a positively svelte 10.7mm tall, which is a great stat for a sport-oriented watch such as this.
In keeping with the racing theme (Ferrari, remember?) you’ve got a couple of different strap options as well. My personal favorite is the “ventilated” brown Italian leather strap, which looks like it was cut from a great pair of driving gloves. If you prefer your racing with a more modern touch, it looks like they’ve got a carbon-fiber weave (style, as it’s made of rubber, not CF) available; both of these straps come in at the $825 pricepoint.
Should you prefer your sport watches on steel, they do also have a bracelet that snugs into the 22mm lugs. For that option, your sticker price hops up to $899. Yes, that puts us into the same price bracket that we saw with yesterday’s C9 Harrison, but they’re dramatically different watches. While a 1/10th of a second accuracy isn’t going to take home any awards for precision, there’s a lot to be said for a movement that carries both “COSC” and “thermo-compensated” on it’s labeling. However you slice it, the C7 will time whatever you need in sublime racing style.
