Christopher Ward C60 Trident Chronograph Pro 600

The diver’s chronograph is an interesting combination of features, and the Christopher Ward C60 Trident Chronograph Pro 600 is the latest entry, and the brand’s first, into that category.  Now, I own a diving chrono (not from CW, another brand), and I like the look, but the complication is certainly not going to be useful for diving.  With the screw down protectors for the pushers, it can’t be operated underwater, so it is a stylistic choice here.   You want a diver as you swim deep into the paperwork at your desk, and you like the features of a chronograph.   The usefulness of the complication aside, I do think it is a very attractive watch.

Available for pre-order (early March delivery) on both a runner strap ($1,920) or a stainless bracelet  ($2,000), my first impression is that this is a pretty watch.  The 43mm case is a good size for a modern watch, and the blue dial with the color matched ceramic bezel is a nice choice for a nautical watch, and the gold ringed subdials add contrast and are matched by the trident counterweight chrono second hand.  The watch’s main second hand is moved to a ‘breathing’ animation at 9:00, which alternated between a dot and dash ( not the Morse dot-dot-dot dash-dash-dash dot-dot-dot for SOS).  The waves inspired Cotes de Geneve paterning on the dial is in keeping with the rest of the line, and works well for a diver.

CW is touting an enhanced luminosity with the deep filled indexes, and, of course, the watch has a helium escape valve to match the 600M depth rating.  Driving the Christopher Ward C60 Trident Chronograph Pro 600 is an ETA Valjoux 7750 automatic movement, helping to justify the $2,000 price tag.  The watch is not identified as a limited edition, but each piece will contain a serial number.  The bracelet (should you opt for that) has a micro-adjustment, but it does not look like it has a quick expansion link to wear over a wetsuit, again putting it in the desk diver category for me (but that is where I wear my divers 99% of the time).  Overall, I think it is very attractive and has a lot of good elements, though something I couldn’t justify for myself.  christopherward.com
