Cause they love a recycled movement!  Well, at least, I know I do.  Matt took a look at the latest ToM sale, and here’s what he had to say.

Touch of Modern has been on a little bit of a watch kick lately, and a sale that popped up today on Wakmann Watches is very interesting.  After doing a little digging into the brand, it seems that the company is taking older movements and repackaging them into modern looking watches.  From the images, the finished products look very well done.

The most expensive watch, the Timekeeper Paladin 5 uses a Phenix hand wound vintage 1945 movements with a seconds sub dial at 9:00.  It is being sold at $4,999, a 30% discount from retail, but I don’t know where this watch would actually be sold in a retail setting.

Also on sale is a hand would chronograph with a 1960s vintage BFG movement, on your choice of a leather strap or stainless bracelet.  The chrono features a flyback movement for timing multiple cars around the racetrack.  The cases look well done, but this there is no exhibition caseback with this unit.  The price on these is $1,369, again with a $30% discount.

The final watch on sale looks to be a straight up modern watch, the Shadow, with an ETA 2824-2 (though this may be a vintage version of this movement), a PVD case, and a very nice looking carbon fiber face.  The watch looks to be modern and readable, with a very sporty feel thanks to the red markings and second hand.  I would swap out the included silicon strap for a carbon fiber one for a very high tech feel.  The price for this is a very reasonable $899.
