Seven Continents, five oceans, and one eXperience is what inspired the makers of Twelf-X. The name is a play on words, combining the 7 continents and 5 oceans and life’s experiences. They currently have two lines of watches: Ocean (diving) and Sky (aviation). They were kind enough to send the Sky 1914 Auto Flyer for review.
Travel a lot? If you do, you might really like this one. You can track up to three time zones with this bad boy. You can track the first zone with the main dial, the second zone with the inner rotating ring, and then track the third with the outer rotating bezel. Aside from being a convenient traveler, it also looks really good. The orange text on the dark blue dial really works for me and the red inner hour ring adds the right amount of contrast. There is a lot going on with the dial of this Sky 1914 Auto Flyer, and it just visually works.
Twelf-X uses a mix of brushed and polished finishes and has done a good quality job on the surfaces of the case. The case is made from 316L stainless steel and measures in at 44mm in diameter. There are two screw down crowns; one for setting the time, and the other for adjusting the inner timezone ring. Sapphire crystal is used for both the dial and the exhibition case back. Even though this is made for soaring above sea level it has a water resistance of 660ft, so you can also take a plunge below and take it on a dive.
Twelf-X chose to go with the Seiko NH35 automatic movement with 36 to 41 hour power reserve. You can’t really go wrong with this. It’s a simple, yet reliable movement. There is no decoration done except for a signature rotor. It still looks good to me.
The strap on the Twelf-X is very comfortable. The entire strap is silicon but has the look and texture of a canvas strap. The orange stitching pairs perfectly with the orange accents on the dial. It can’t get any more comfortable, it’s that good. The strap is very soft and fits very well on the wrist. The only issue I have, and that’s with pretty much all silicone straps, is that they love lint. I guess I can live with that.
The lume looks fantastic. Twelf-X claims that with 30min of exposure to light, this will glow for up to an an hour. I did not time it that long but while wearing it, the lume did last for a good amount of time. Its hard to see in this photo but the hour markers glow orange and the hands are a green/blue. It’s really a nice sight in the dark.
The new Twelf-X Sky 1914 Auto Flyer has a lot going for it. It’s good looking and really stands out. Aside from looking good, it’s also very functional. build quality is good and the price is even better. Going for only $329 USD, this watch is great for the budget.
