Vierra Watch Co. started out when two college buddies, Eric and Jeremy, realized that they both had the desire to be entrepreneurs and shared the same passion for watches.  After a successful crowdfunding campaign in 2015 the Vierra watch brand was born.  Their claim is that this is the best watch in the world for under $150.00.

So what sets them apart from the others?  According to their website, their watches are water resistant to 100meters, where most others are only 30 meters. They offer a lifetime warranty where most others offer 1 to 2 year warranty.  Let’s see if that is true.

The Case

Using a mix of polished and brushed elements the case has both a casual and dressy appearance. The polished crown pops out against the brushed stainless steel case. Caseback is a simple screwdown with company logo and watch specs etched into it. The case is 42mm in diameter and has a water resistance of 100meters which is good enough for swimming.

The Dial

This has a very clean and minimal dial. The only text on it is their logo, which to me is a bit too bold for the minimal look they’re trying for. The model I received has a matte silver dial with polished hour markers. All their models are three hand with a date at the 6 o’clock position.  The hour and second hands are polished silver with a red seconds hand. I do like the contrast the red second hand makes with the rest of the polished parts. The dial is protected by a Sapphire crystal which is nice to see for a watch at this price.

The Strap

My model is the Silver Leather model and came with a light tan leather strap with pin and buckle clasp.  The strap is soft and can handle a good size wrist.  My 6.5 inch wrist only used the second hole in the strap.

The Crystal

One difficulty this watch presents is that Vierra are unclear on what the crystal is made of. On their main page, they list it as a “Sapphire Crystal Display (virtually scratch-proof.)” On the product page for this watch, they list the crystal as “Scratch resistant hardened mineral crystal.” I’m inclined to believe it is the mineral crystal, but I don’t appreciate the confusion they created.

Note the bragging about Sapphire.

Similar issues come up for me with the movement. They state it’s a “Custom Miyota Japanese quartz with date window in “6” position.” But there’s nothing really custom about having the date window in the 6 position, it’s just a different date wheel.

So is this the best watch for under $150.00? To be honest, I can’t really say. Maybe. But from what I can see, it’s a solid watch for the price. Prices are from $129.00 to $149.00. The fact that this has a questionable (Sapphire? Mineral?) crystal gives me pause, but water resistance to 100 meters and a lifetime warranty (nontransferable) make it a pretty good deal. Check them out at vierrawatches.com.
