I’ve been no stranger to bringing your attention to watches that have cases made out of unusual materials (bronze, wood, plastic), but I’ve not really showcased something that has a unique material actually being used for the dial.  Today, that changes!

The company in question manufacturing these watches is Clomm, which is an English botique brand founded in 2011 (clomm apparently means “to grasp”).

Now, if I were to tell you that this was a new brand putting out some three-handers, and didn’t give you any pictures or descriptions, you’d likely go read something else.  Here, though, they’ve got something of interest, in terms of what they’re putting on the dials.

They’ve got a handful of different looks, but I’ve pictured the three most interesting ones here.  You’ve got dials made of cork, oak, and rosewood – things you’re more likely to find in your furniture than your watch.  As you can see, dials aside (and their coordinated hands), these watches share a lot of similarities.

Here are the relevant specs:

  • 47mm 316L stainless steel case (PVD coated; 15mm thick)
  • Swiss Ronda 736 quartz movement
  • Sapphire crystal
  • Italian leather strap
  • 50 m water resistance
  • Snap-in case back

So, all in all, fairly straightforward pieces.  Obviously, the most appealing (or differentiating) feature of the watches is the material on the dials (though, they do have some that are less unexpected).  I like them, as it gives a feel of warmth you generally don’t pick up from the chunks of stainless steel we normally buckle on.

Of course, what I’m not as much a fan of is the pricing.  $490 for a quartz three hander, even when they look as nice as these, feels a bit on the high side for my tastes.  If you think it’s ok, though, you can head on over here and order yours.
