In other words, don’t fear the reaper.  In this case, the Dievas Reaper.  Dievas offers three distinct lines (Professional diver, Tactical, and Vintage), and this particular model comes from their Tactical line.  With the Reaper name, they’re attempting to draw parallels to the MQ-9 Unmanned Aerial Vehicle.  While I think that linkage is tenuous, at best, it’s still an interesting watch.

The first thing you notice are those bright yellow indices and hands on the watch.  While some might prefer a fully blacked-out watch, I think the yellow is a great addition here.  It’s bright and obvious, thereby increasing readability, but it is by no means garish.  And it’s not just paint – it’s actually lume made by SuperLuminova, ensuring readability remains even when it gets dark.

Speaking of dark, how about that 42mm case?  It’s machined out of stainless steel, and then Dievas puts it through a process they call 6SteelBlack.  Essentially, it appears to be a specialized heat-treating process that increases toughness and abrasion resistance, while simultaneously depositing a rich black coating.

Topping off this case you have a scratch-resistant (and AR-coated) sapphire crystal.  Flip the watch over, and you have yet another piece of sapphire crystal allowing you to peer at the workings of the ETA 2824-2 movement that offers up a 42-hour power reserve.  Rounding things out you have a black and yellow 22mm leather strap keeping the watch, which is water resistant to 50 meters,  in place.

That is, if you can get a hold of one.  The run is limited to 50 pieces, and I was not able to locate the watch from any of the distributors that Dievas has listed as authorized outlets.  The world-wide distributor did have it listed for $1180, but is marked as sold out.  So, if this is one you want to pick up, you will likely need to resort to the secondary market.

  1. For a similar style with the same night vision, at a great price, check out Bianci’s new Sports Automatic model for only $149!
It’s got a beautiful face with a 316L surgical stainless steel case with a see-through exhibition in the back. The pilot strap and super luminous night vision dial and numbers make this watch super cool.
