We’re not saying that this is true for everyone, but now that warm weather is approaching, you might be considering what watch it is you want for those outdoors adventures and late nights. On the other hand, you might be thinking about something of that nature for graduation or Father’s Day in a few months. If you want a classic look with no-fuss usability, then something like the ProTek Field should fit the bill.

First things first – let’s talk the case of the ProTek Field. Here, it’s a very wearable 40mm and just 11mm thick, made of titanium (along with a titanium caseback and crown). Between the sizing and the lightweight (but still tough) titanium, this is a watch that you don’t notice on your wrist until it’s time to check the time. Add in a sapphire crystal, and you’ve got a tough package protecting the dial and movement.

For the movement, you’ve got a Miyota Quartz movement that should run for four years on the battery, meaning that it’s super low maintenance. With no date to worry about, this will just keep running and stay accurate. Quartz is also less susceptible to being banged around, so it makes a good choice for outdoors adventures.

In the daylight, visibility on the ProTek Field is sharp, with the white indices and handset standing out against the blue dial (well, it was blue on our review loaner). When the lights go down, that’s where the ProTek Field really shines (literally). For the dial, they use wider tritium tubes, which give off a nice amount of light; the handset uses the narrow tubes, with green for the minutes and blue for the hours. This makes it a cinch to check the time when you get woken up in the middle of the night. I’m a big fan of the wider tubes with the amount of light they give off; you can see it compared against a more classic tritium dial (from Ball) in the photo above, and judge which you’d prefer if nighttime visibility is paramount.

Add in a 100m WR rating, and the ProTek Field seems set for summertime adventure (especially with the waterproof leather strap). While I’m mentally positioning the ProTek Field as a good outdoors watch, it’s frankly a solid everyday sort of a watch for someone who just wants something that’s reliable, easy to use, and likes a bit of a light show on their wrist. If you want to pick one up, they’re going for $475 (with different dial and strap options) directly from protekwatch.com
