When you’re thinking about a watch for banging around for the summer, if you’re not looking at something solar powered and perhaps digital, it’s hard to go wrong with a classic Field watch. It’s a simple three-handed design meant to get the task down, and is ready for rough duty. Hamilton just recently launched a new, 38mm version of their Hamilton Khaki Field Titanium.

By dropping the case size down from 42mm (which they still have) to 38mm, the Hamilton Khaki Field Titanium becomes more wearable across a variety of wrists. Weight will drop a tad as well, but when you’re talking titanium, that’s less of a concern (as it’s already light). It of course looks sort of like steel, but you’ll quickly find that it has a different sheen to it.

Just because the Hamilton Khaki Field Titanium is more compact, it does not mean that they’ve scrimped on the movement inside (goes to show that many modern watches are a lot larger than they need to be). Tucked inside the case is their H-10 automatic, which among other niceties, gives you an 80-hour power reserve. It’s hard to articulate how great that is, but consider this. Most standard movements will offer 38-42 hours of reserve without breaking a sweat. This Hamilton (as well as others in the Swatch group) is offering double that – perfect for folks who rotate through different watches through the course of the week. You set this one, and you’ll like not have to worry about resetting it for a good long time.

Along with the smaller case size, the price tag has shrunk a bit as well, depending on the options you go for. The new 38mm version of the Hamilton Khaki Field Titanium is available between $895 and $945, while the 42mm version goes for $945. We’re also in talks with Hamilton to get a loaner in, so watch out for that hands-on review. hamiltonwatch.com
