As you’re no doubt aware, Kross Studio is no stranger to creating what I’d consider to be a functional sculpture (much like a watch is a piece of functional jewelry) in the form of watch winders that work off of licensed material. My absolute favorite, of course, is their 1989 Batmobile, but this newer Kross Studio X Star Wars TIE Advanced x1 Watch Winder is easily in second place.

Of course, this is not the first time that Star Wars has hit their designs (you can see the prior one here). This time around, it’s Darth Vader’s own personal ship that takes center stage, and frankly, I’m surprised that we’ve not seen this sort of design previously. It’s almost deceptively simple, with the wings serving as the stand, and the central body/cockpit holding the winder bits. A shame that they didn’t come up with a watch cover that flips down to match the front windows of the TIE, but such is life.

That external simplicity on the Kross Studio X Star Wars TIE Advanced x1 Watch Winder may have you wondering how you actually use the thing. Well, once you load a watch in, it can tell that there’s something there needing winding (via an IR sensor), and automatically kicks on. Conversely, remove the watch, and it goes into standby mode, giving you up to two years of battery life. If you want to to adjust any of the settings, that’s done via Bluetooth.

So, there you have it, a clean and simple bit of Star Wars paraphernalia for your shelf that also keeps your watch ready to go. At $2,500 it’s for the deep-pocketed collector, but it’ll blend right on in with your other gear. Check it out, and perhaps order your own, over at kross-studio.ch
