If you’re looking for the ultimate in nighttime visibility, you can look for several layers of luminous paint, fully luminous applied indices, or small glass vials filled with a radioactive gas that excite a phosphor layer on the inside of that glass – aka tritium tubes. While we’ve known what players there are in that arena, a new one just landed – ProTek Watches.

If you’re thinking that these look somewhat reminiscent of designs we’ve seen from Luminox in the past, that’s no mistake. ProTek was started up by Barry Cohen, the former owner and founder of Luminox. For being a new player to the tritium watch game, ProTek is starting off strong, landing the title of the Official Watch of the US Marine Corps.

To start off with, there are three main models being launched of the ProTek:

  • Carbon Composite Dive 1000 with a 42mm carbon composite case and a quartz movement
  • Gent’s Steel Dive 2000 with a 42mm stainless steel case and quartz movement
  • Titanium Field 3000 with a 40mm titanium case (and caseback) and quartz movement

It’s an interesting swing they’re making there with the three different case materials in the mix. Each of those also has a very different looking dial design. The 1000-series feels the most like the tacti-cool that Luminox goes for, while the steel 2000-series takes things in a more officer-rank direction, and the 3000-series looks the most like a civilian watch, aka a tritium watch that will fly under the radar. Across the range, pricing goes from $525 to $595, which is a tidy band to figure out the look and colors that you’re on the hunt for. We’re working on getting a loaner in; in the meantime, check them out over at protekwatch.com
