Even if you’re not a snowboarder (I most certainly am not), you are no doubt familiar with the snowboarding gear brand Burton. Well, as with most brands, it actually started out as the brainchild of one person. In this case, it was Jake Burton Carpenter back in 1977 who decided standing sideways on the snow was the way to go. He passed about a year ago, and this new Jake Burton Carpenter Shinola is being done in honor of what he built.

Speaking of, the Jake Burton Carpenter Shinola starts life as a Shinola Duck (one we’ve not seen in person, but are working to rectify) that has had some special touches applied to it courtesy of Jake’s friends and family. For instance, this dial design shows up on no other Duck model, or even the particular shade of blue used for it and the domed bezel. You’ve also got the Burton logo up at 12 o’clock, and a caseback showing Jake himself riding his board.

Speaking of, the Jake Burton Carpenter Shinola is not just the watch itself. It’s a full kit, in which you get a replica (smaller sized) of that very first board, a tabletop book, and a leather-wrapped cooler case for when you don’t have snow handy to keep your beverages cool. All in all, it’s a tidy package that honors the man, and should be a hit for fans of the brand.

To add the Jake Burton Carpenter Shinola collectors kit to your own gear bag, you’ll need to bring along $1,200. Yes, that’s a premium over the standard Duck models, but that’s the nature of these sorts of special limited edition models. And hey, if the family is proud of what’s being produced here, then I’m guessing Jake would be a fan as well. shinola.com
