I have to say, Mr Jones has really been stepping up their game. They have had some interesting and quirky designs in the past, and their jump-hour equipped Chatterbox brought another level to things with the printing they were able to do on the underside of the crystal. They learned some good lessons there, it seems, as the same sort of treatment (albeit with a bit of a twist) shows up in the Mr Jones King and Queen.

Upon first glance, the imagery on the Mr Jones King and Queen watches is immediately familiar for anyone who has spent time around decks of cards. To further cement that association, we have cards showing up to the side of the figure painted on the crystal (more on that shortly). As you can surmise from the photos, the hours are plainly indicated in the center of the dial, this time appearing in the heart of either the King or the Queen. That’s simple enough – but what about the minutes? For that, Mr Jones has a trick up their sleeves.

Remember those cards I mentioned as appearing to the side of the figure? Well, those are how you read the minutes on the Mr Jones King and Queen. The images above and below call that out. First off, you have the cards themselves that give you an idea. For example, three 10s add up to 30, so that’s half past the hour. Combine an Ace and a 5? Well, that’s fifty minutes past the hour, and so on. So, the 10 minute marks are pretty easy. What about any interstitial minutes (say, 19 past the hour?) For that, you need to pay attention to the shadows on the card (see the photo below). Where those fall helps you know if you are in advance, or past, the 10 minute interval being indicated. So, you will still have some approximation to work with, but you should still get pretty close to the specific time.

Mr-Jones-King-Queen-27Coming in at a price of around $260, the Mr Jones King and Queen is a very thematically accurate take on playing cards, and I think should work well for anyone who is really into card games (or card tricks, in that matter). Of note, as with many other Mr Jones watches, this is a limited edition of 100 pieces each. While the Chatterbox presented something very graphics-oriented, the Mr Jones King and Queen really shows what else the brand can do with that same sort of premise. On does wonder what they will dream up next. mrjoneswatches.com
