There are more than a few brands that call Glashütte – in Germany – home. While I’ve covered more than a few of them, Tutima is one that has sort of flown under my radar. With their recently-announced entry-level lineup, perhaps the Tutima Sky will put put them onto all of our radars.

Taking a look at the Tutima Sky, it’s easy to see that the watch is inspired by some vintage designs. In this case, the brand points to the 1970s as the spiritual home for the design, though the 41mm case is definitely from the modern era. What be less clear is that the brand considers this part of their Flieger lineup. You can see the cues a little bit in the onion-ish crown. And, well, for me, that’s about it. I generally associate the flieger style with a very specific handset, but that’s not what we’ve got here.

In my book, the Tutima Sky (ok, perhaps the name points to an aviation heritage) presents as a dressier – but still sporty – vintage look to a watch. This is enhanced by the dial, with it’s degrade tint (surprisingly, I’d go for the red here instead of the blue), the way the date and day windows are cut out, and the applied (polished, but not apparently lumed) indices set on the dial. There is some luminous paint used here as well, with small bits on the handset (a drawback to this particular style of hand) as well as lumed pips out on the chapter ring (a look I particularly like here).

Powering the Tutima Sky is a movement the brand labels as the Tutima 330, which has a rhodium-plated rotor complete with an golden Geneva Seal. Guess there’s no doubt about what certification they adhere to, right? That’s visible through the exhibition casebook (sapphire there to mirror the crystal around front). So, what will this colorful vintage-look watch run you? The list for the Tutima Sky is $1,750 on the milanese bracelet which is, as mentioned earlier, a lower entry point for the brand. We are working to get one in for a hands-on review, and we’ll give you a more in-depth look at that time. tutima.com
