The Timex American Documents series is an interesting one, focusing on some American roots for the brand, and bringing different designs – and designers – into the mix. This time around, they’ve enlisted Blaine Halvorson of MadeWorn to come up with something new – which resulted in the Timex x MadeWorn you see here.

MadeWorn has a distinctly vintage aesthetic, so much of the Timex x MadeWorn has had a forced aging process applied. The 41mm case has the scratches and dings one normally associates with years of year, and the leather strap has also had some treatment done to make it look like it’s absorbed the sweat and grime of a life lived.

Technically, the dial of the Timex x MadeWorn has also been aged, but I think that gets overshadowed a bit by the two-tone look that has been done here. Being split down the middle as it is here (in theory a demarcation of AM vs PM, but that falls short since it’s a 12-hour movement, not a 24-hour one) is quite striking. As is the running seconds subdial, as it appears to have not been aged nearly as much as the dial itself. The handset looks to be beveled and polished, though finished in a glossy black, so legibility might be a bit trick on the left side of the dial.

Around back, gone is is the map of the US that we’ve seen on prior American Documents watches. Instead, the caseback has been stamped with Timex x MadeWorn naming, as well as a serial number, giving it a bit of a feel of the engraved military watch casebacks. Tucked under the caseback is a Swiss movement, gold-plated to help reduce friction.

The Timex x MadeWorn is available now in limited numbers, for $850. Sure, that’s reflective of the limited numbers and the heavy use of hand-done work and treatments on the watch, but even so, that feels a bit steep to me. But, I guess if the market will bear it… You can pick up one of your own either directly from Timex, or over at MadeWorn.
