Though Zodiac has been working to build up their always-available offerings, it’s hard to deny the success that they’ve had with the limited-edition models that they’ve released over the past few years. Another one just dropped, in partnership with brand you may be familiar with: meet the Zodiac x Huckberry Left Hand Drive Pro Diver GMT.
Huckberry, of course, is all about getting cool gear to the folks who want to get out there and actually use their stuff. In which case, the collab with Zodiac, well, it just makes sense. Whats particularly interesting here is that the Huckberry logo doesn’t show up anywhere on the dial or caseback. So, if you’re wanting to keep it purely Zodiac, you’re set.
Now, being a Super Sea Wolf, the dial and handset (with their elongated keystone shapes) will be quite familiar. The addition of the orange GMT hand notes this as something different, as well as the novel of script they’ve put on the lower half of the dial. The other big changes is the left-hand configuration.
This means, then, that the main crown is at the 9 o’clock position instead of 3. For someone adventuring (and wearing the watch on the left hand) this gives the crown a little more protection, and keeps it from digging into your wrist. For those who wear it on the right hand, well, that allows you to use the crown while wearing the watch. For those concerned about crown placement, just be aware that the helium escape valve is at 2 o’clock, so that could interact with things.
While the HEV fits the aesthetic of the watch, I’m going to say that 99% of the people buying the Zodiac x Huckberry Left Hand Drive Pro Diver GMT will never had any need of it. So, if we’re going to have a stripped back travel diver (GMT without date) maybe the HEV can be left in the dustbin as well, especially for a 200m watch.
