While I rather doubt this watch had anything to do with the Kobayashi Maru, it’s still a rather intriguing one from the folks over at TokyoFlash.

Of course, the post title gives away the name of the watch, the Kisai Maru.  To my eyes, this is one of the simplest-to-read LCD models that TF has released as of late, while still keeping things interesting.  Here’s what they have to say about it:

“A combination of edges and circles, Kisai Maru features an intuitive time display in mirrored LCD. Framed in a custom designed, aluminium case with a faceted surface and a dual color anodised finish, Kisai Maru is available in black, silver or sienna with a contrasting color tone that runs in a precise groove around the circular display and through the strap.”

While at first it seems like it might be confusing to read, your eyes pick up on the difference between the hour and minute hand, so I think you can pretty quickly get to an “at a glance” reading habit with the piece.  Of course, it’s not just time with this one, either.  You also get the following functionality:

  • Date display
  • Alarm function
  • EL backlight
At a 41mm diameter, the anodized aluminum case should have a nice presence, but not weigh you down to much (nor will the mineral crystal).  You’ve only got a 30m water resistance rating, so you’ll want to avoid submerging the watch.  If you can do that, the replaceably CR2025 battery should keep you running for a good bit.
This is a reasonably affordable watch, coming in at $149.  However, if you order (right here) before midnight or so on Friday (based on Eastern time), you can pick it up for just $109, which is a nice deal if you’re looking to dip your toes in the TokyoFlash catalog.
