Michael Kors Jetmaster Automatic 05Let us be honest here, there are people to whom the designer is as important as the actual design.  I see a fair number of watches out in the malls that are put out by clothing brands and are little more than overpriced quartz three handers.  Which is why this watch is intriguing.  The Michael Kors Jetmaster Automatic is a mechanical watch, it is reasonably straight forward in its design, and it is not outrageously priced.   Could this be a way for designers to fight back against the coming wave of the iWatch?

Michael Kors Jetmaster Automatic 04The watch itself is a sporting looking design with a stainless case, a black unidirectional rotating bezel and red accents.  The dial is skeletonized, but still very readable, at least from the images.  The exhibition case back does a good job in showing off the movement, complete with a skeletonized rotor.

The details on the watch, at least from the deigner’s web site, are slim, so I am going to assume that the crystals are mineral and the 40-hour power reserve movement is from China.  While the watch looks like a chronograph, it is not.  The sub dials are for day, date and month, with a sub dial at 6:00 for 24 hour time, which I will again assume is not a GMT.

Michael Kors Jetmaster Automatic 03I am going to hazard that this watch was not built for most of the regular readers of this site.  I think it is attractive enough to fit into a collection, it is affordable at under $500, but there isn’t enough to really push it over the edge into a watch lover’s collection, especially not at the full list price (but who really buys these things at full list price?).

Instead, I want to simply point out the move made by an affordable fashion brand name, and applaud them for making the move.  Who knows, maybe they will work the watch into a future episode of Project Runway and make automatics fashionable. michaelkors.com/trend/jetmaster
