Looks like Amazon has decided they need to reduce their stock of the Seiko 5 SNK809 Automatic watch – they’ve currently got it on sale for under $57.

What do you get get for your cash?

  • A 37 mm stainless steel case
  • Hardlex mineral crystal
  • 17 (?) mm canvas strap
  • An automatic mechanical movement with day/date complication (7S26)
  • Luminous markers / hands

37 mm may put this on the smaller side of modern tastes, but it should fit well under a shirt cuff, and look sharp on those who don’t have ginormous wrists.  Amazon is marking this as 69% savings over the regular price of $185, but I had a hard time finding it anywhere near that high of a price online – though the next cheapest I could find it was around $100, so you do appear to be getting a discount.

Given the price, and the expected performance that goes with the Seiko name, this could be a good watch in many scenarios – as a backup watch, something you’re giving to a relative as an introduction to the world of mechanical watches, or perhaps just as a good ol’ impulse buy to add to your own collection.  Whatever the reason, this should be a solid watch at a great price.
