In the wide, wide world of watches, there are many styles, many varying levels of complexity. While some of those wilder watches may grab our eyes, sometimes all you really want – or need – is a clean and simple watch. And that’s what the Altitude Pilot Watch is offering.
The design of the Altitude Pilot Watch of course hearkens back to the 1930s and 1940s, and is at once recognizable and quite cleanly legible. I think that’s why the design has survived as it has. You may not care about the history of how these watches were used by pilots and observers, but there’s no denying the crispness.
While the dial of the Altitude Pilot Watch can at first seem cluttered, it’s actually not. You simply have two tracks printed – minutes on the outside, hours on the inside – with the hands reaching to the respective track. This is a very no-nonsense design, and even the triangle at 12 – while a detail you no doubt are familiar with – serves to orient what is up and down on the watch itself.
Many brands have offered this design in their line, and I’m sure that Altitude won’t be the last one to offer it. However, if you want one right now – and a very affordable one at that – then the Kickstarter for the Altitude Pilot Watch is where you want to look. The campaign itself is fully funded (admittedly at a low goal) with pricing still available at just $96, with delivery anticipated for November 2020.
