I first became aware of The Electricianz when I wrote about their Cable Z watch three years ago. They’ve kept with their theme of the “exposed” electronics. This time around, though, they’re upping the game by putting a mechanical movement into The Electricianz Hybrid.
At a high level, The Electricianz Hybrid sort of reminds me of an Armin Strom or even a Glashütte Original, with the timekeeping offset to the right side of the case opening. That’s actually a good use of the smaller movement, rather than trying to mask things into a bigger watch case with spacers.
To make use of the extra space, then, The Electricianz Hybrid pops in a bit of their own electronics. For this, it gives you a bit of a literal light show, with a 5-second “retrograde” flash, as well as LED backlighting on the dial. As near as I can tell, the electronics and the mechanical movement aren’t actually talking to each other, but still manage to live side-by-side in the case.
It’s an interesting look, and I’m curious about the backlighting getting incorporated with the mechanical movement.
