Watches can draw inspiration from any number of things – nature, automobiles, planes, and so on. Less frequently we see watches take inspiration from architecture. That’s where the Panthevm Roma Avtomatic Ocvlvs focuses in, calling Rome it’s inspirational home.

Now, you might have guessed the Roman influences with all the v’s taking the place of u’s in the name of the watch: Panthevm Roma Avtomatic Ocvlvs. Specifically, the watch dial is calling to mind the inside of the domed roof of the Pantheon, now called the Basilica of St. Mary and the Martyrs. For me, the nooks and crannies of the dial are really the attention grabber.

It’s set into a beefier-looking 40mm case (has a bit of a tool watch/diver feel to it), which is a bit jarring when you consider the bezel. With the Roman numerals and the angles, this feels like they wanted the Panthevm Roma Avtomatic Ocvlvs to have a bit more of a dressier feel. And I’m not saying that you can’t wear a steel tool watch with a suit (because you can, I know I have). It’s just that a slimmer profile would up the ante, and likely not threaten that 100m WR rating.

Tucked into the case is the well-known Seiko NH-35 movement, so you’ve got that definitely going in the favor of the watch (ie, getting it serviced and maintained should be no issue). That also helps keep the costs down – the Panthevm Roma Avtomatic Ocvlvs has earlybird pricing starting at $307, with delivery anticipated for April 2021. On the other hand, if you don’t need the watch, but want some Italian leather straps, you can pick up two for $153 or three for $212. Those straps are also options for the watch, which comes – standard – on a steel bracelet.

As it stands right now, the Panthevm Roma Avtomatic Ocvlvs is about 31% funded, with things not wrapping up until December 15th. Once things close out and they’ve produced some watches, we’ve been talking with the brand about getting a loaner in.
