Just as certainly as the Earth orbits around the sun, new watches will keep showing up on Kickstarter. This time around, we’ve got one from a brand that’s returning to the well (aka, they know how to actually produce a watch) – the Peren Hintz, which launched a few days ago.

On the surface of things, the Peren Hintz presents as a sort of neo-retro take on a watch. And you know what, that’s totally ok by me. Where the watch starts to set itself apart is in the details. The numerals are printed in a shade of red you don’t commonly see, and you’ve got some narrow sword-style hands spinning over that. Finally, you’ve got an interesting running-seconds indicator.

Here, you’ve got a small spinning disc at the 6 o’clock position letting you know the movement is going. Where it becomes unique is what inspired this design detail. It’s directly drawn from the Andesite Sun, which is a precise solar calendar that is in Transylvania. This is a key detail – along with the watch brand being based there, it’s also named for a big watchmaking name from the region – Eugen Hintz. In other words, this is a watch with big – if subtle – nods to its homeland.

Inside the steel case of the Peren Hintz, you switch over to another country – Switzerland. You can have your choice of ETA Unitas 6498-1 movement (undecorated or elabore-grade), and the watch itself is assembled in Switzerland. Hence, that small bit of “Swiss Made” text down at the bottom of the dial.

Not everyone is looking for a manually-wound watch, but for those seeking more of that vintage feel, it’s a great way to go (along with allowing for a thinner case). The crowd-funding campaign for the Peren Hintz just started up a few days ago, and closes out July 16th. The icing on this cake? For the undecorated movement, you can get in for about $416, while the decorated movement goes to $521. You can check out all the details – and get your pledge in – right here: campaign page
