Project Watch Twirl 01

Projects Watches is an interesting brand, putting out low cost quartz watches driven not be fashion, but by design aesthetic.  We have covered them on our pages before, and recently they reached out to us for a new watch they are debuting, the Projects Watches Twirl.  The brand’s tag line for the watch is “a new interpretation of time,” but I see it more as a unique but still readable variation on the standard 2-hander.

The hands and the indices are all twisted away from the center of the watch, so the hands are no longer anchored to the middle.  With a simple Miyota quartz mechanism, the watch is able to do this by painting the hands on clear disks that rotate in the normal way.  The edges of the hands line up exactly how you would read any standard watch, but the ‘line’ of the hand is twirled away from the center.  I have not spent time with the watch, but I expect that I would pick up on reading it very quickly.  However. it would give anyone else glancing at my wrist pause on how it works, which is what I expect the brand wants out of the design.

The watch itself is 40mm in diameter and less than 8mm tall, so it is a thin enough to pass for a dress watch.  The case is black IP coated stainless steel and the 20mm leather strap is attached via hidden lugs.  The watch is water resistant to 3 ATM.  projectswatches.com
